YOUR CO-TRAVELER

I am not a fan of travelling especially by road, but I have done a bit of traveling by road and while it isn’t usually my first choice, I have enjoyed those trips. Road trips are interesting, I like the fact that I can see the topography that leads to my destination. I love especially when traveling within Nigeria that I can stop by the roadside and shop for fresh food, fish, meat and so much more. Even the bargaining banter to make these purchases are part of the fun.

However, I have never made a road trip alone. The company, especially when they share in the sense of adventure, make the trip even more worthwhile. In a way, life is like a road trip, as they share certain similarities.

First, the element of adventure. This is the major reason people go on road trips- the desire to explore nature, the differences in culture, atmospheres and terrains. They give us the opportunity to experience the environment first hand. Such experiences are frightening for some but for others, it’s exhilarating.

Then, there’s the element of surprise and uncertainty. This is one part most people don’t like – the fact that you cannot control the number of experiences you may encounter even when you set out prepared with all you may need for the trip; anything can still happen on the way.

Like I mentioned about the few trips I have made, the choice of a co-traveler can almost always make or mar the success of any road trip and the same goes for the adventure called life. Road trips are boring and laborious when embarked on alone. Not just that, it is always more enriching and safer to travel with someone else- someone that’s equally interested in the trip.

Life cannot be traveled alone. You need a co-traveler. Someone to go the distance with you; one who shares similar values and interests; someone heading in the same direction as you and with the same vision as you.

Sadly, some people do not have co-travelers, others are travelling with the wrong ones and experiencing great levels of frustration.

So, what is your experience?

Are you travelling alone? I think it’s time to get a co-traveler to enhance your level of productivity. No one is designed to do life alone. You need to take a closer look at your own journey. Where are you headed? What’s the purpose of your journey? Using this as your lens, carefully find someone you can travel with.

Are you travelling with the wrong people? Kindly re-evaluate that relationship. It’s better to do so now than after so much damage has been done. Don’t be afraid to start fresh.

The trip of life is best traveled with a co-traveler who is willing to go the distance with you. Choose well.
