Tight Corners

Integrity.
Character.
Honesty.

These words are not very popular in our day, neither are they valued by many. In fact, most believe that people who still hold these traits in high esteem cannot thrive in the world today. Sadly, in our society things like scheming, flattery and deceit seem to be the only way to get things done and propel further. “The end justifies the means”; they say, and use this to give their wrong doing validation. The reality is that even though what they do is wrong, they usually seem to be getting ahead. The problem however, is that this mentality and mindset is the cause of the rot and non-stop nosedive of the society. It is alarming that people fail to realize that the constant disregard
of integrity is leading to the destruction of the world as we know it.

I have discovered that the root of this mentality is the unbridled desire for instant gratification. We no longer have the patience to work things through in order to get the desired results and so, when push comes to shove, we take the shortest cut possible to get what we want, forgetting that the shortcuts produce results that do not last.

People who choose to place great value on integrity are a rare-breed in this day and though they might not be celebrated in the world, the truth still remains that they have peace of mind and heart and they live life without fear. What lying and scheming does is that it robs you of peace and confidence. I don’t think short-lived gains and thrills are worth our peace of mind and confidence, do you?

Principles may seem insignificant but they are timeless. They still work for anyone who chooses to apply them. The principle of hard work and integrity still pays today, as much as it did years ago, regardless of the situation you find yourself in, integrity is still the best option in the end.

The point is when you find yourself in a tight corner the next time, which line will you tow? Will
you choose to do just about anything to ensure that you get out of it, by hook or crook or would you stick it out and choose to work through the process to become a better person?

Please choose well.
