MASTERING YOUR PRESSURE POINTS (BLOGPOST)

Hello and welcome to today’s blog…

What are pressure points?  According to the Merriam Webster online dictionary, a pressure point is a place in your body that can be pressed to stop tension or pain. Wiki how, says that ‘the traditional definition of a pressure point is a point that when pressure is applied, produces crippling pain, they are also known as vulnerable points’.

If we take both definitions together, you will find that pressure points can both be beneficial and dangerous depending on who is looking for them and putting pressure on them.  As I started to prepare for the trip I am now on last week, I heard the Holy Spirit give me an assignment before I got on the plane and it seemed that I heard Him say,’make sure you master your pressure points before you return’.  This simple instruction has had me thinking a lot of my pressure points…

To be able to make sense of the instruction that I have received I had to find a working definition for me, and what I ended up with is that a pressure point is that part of me that has both the capacity to make and break me.  What this means is that it is part of my life and there is nothing I can do about eliminating it.  As I meditated, I had to first think through what had been pressure points for me in the past.  Here are a few I can remember…

First is my relationships… I grew up a bit timid which put me on the people-pleasing spectrum, what that meant automatically, was that I gave too much power to the people in my life at that point and in the process they hurt me more that they sought to protect me, and as God helped me I realised that I had to revisit the foundation of my relationships and out of that place was birth the book Sista Power, recognising that while I cannot go through the journey of my best life alone, I can determine the template and work within the parameters of that template.

Then came my philosophy of work and success which tied neatly with my money philosophy, this took me a while, but to master this I had to define what work and success looked like to me.  I quickly realised that even if work was hard, as long as it aligned with my DNA and fulfilled me, Grace will be available to me.  Piggy backing on that was my definition success… I had to be sure what I will term as success, and again it took me a while, but I finally arrived at a place where success had to be for me a fulfillment of the Master’s mandate for my life… ultimately, I realised that only my Master and myself had the right to determine what was a success or wasn’t and boy, that was freeing…

Now these are not the only pressure points I have had to deal with over time.  I got to a point when I had to decide between a squeaky clean house and a happy home.  I had to decide between being right all the time (this is usually with my hubby) and just having a relationship that takes into congnisance both our strengths and our weaknesses.

On this trip I am having to deal with another pressure point and this has to do with what power others should have over what I do with and for God and how they choose to perceive and interpret my journey.  While it is important to me unfortunately, that others perceive my heart, I am quickly learning that I will have to get to a point where even if they don’t understand or believe my heart, I do and that has to be enough for me.

By the way this is still a work in progress, but I am bound to get it before I get on the plane for the return leg of this journey.  In the meantime, maybe if you shared with me, my journey will be faster.  What are your pressure points, past and present? How did you deal with them and how are you dealing?

One thing is clear in all of this, we cannot afford to let the pressure points break us if they also hold the capacity to make us.  Do share your journey with me, Facebook, Twitter or even Instagram.  Or simply leave a comment below…
