Mondays are my rest days. I like to think that I get to rest fully every Monday from physical exertion of any kind, please do not ask me for proof. One thing that is certain is that I get to stay home most Mondays and generally slum. Mondays are the days I go around in my sweats from morning to evening. The day when the only grooming I do is to have a bath and laze around. No make-up, no priming, just plain old me. And I love the fact that I get just to be me, no pressure and all the other attendant lifestyle of being a grown-up, I absolutely love Mondays!

Then from Tuesday, I get to wake up super early, get dressed, do all the priming that I can do and get into the flow of traffic to tackle my world and prayerfully hope for victories. I do this Tuesday through Sunday, every single week. But Mondays! Unlike most people, Mondays give me the chance to be on my terms. The thing is, if you didn’t know me at all and you saw me on a typical Monday, you will probably walk past me because I don’t look like what you would expect.

Have you ever wondered with people when you see them what is behind all that exterior? Have you ever had the opportunity to stand before greatness and not recognise that it is greatness because it presented so ordinary? I have been on both sides; where someone walked up to me asking to see the boss because that day I decided to be ordinary! And yes, shamefully, I admit that I have had the misfortune of treating people like they appeared to me without getting to know who they are truly! Many times, I speak to someone on the phone or chat with them on Social media, and we decide to have a meeting. Almost every time, they never show-up in appearance as I had imagined. Those I imagine to be tall and outstanding show-up, and they are almost puny in stature. I have always wondered why this is so.
Recently, I had one such encounter again, and as I thought on it, it dawned on me that the real person was the one that I had imagined. The young lady I met and I had a picture of a big and large personality but she turned out to be all of 4 feet plus, though she still packed the power that I imagined she had when I spoke to her before we finally met and it was the size of her spirit that made me imagine her stature that huge!

So when she showed up, and she wasn’t as I had imagined, I resolved that going forward, I will be open-minded and not have expectations on how someone should look based on my interaction with them. Many times, I still fail at that resolution, and it is because the real person I have come to realise is the part of the person that I know even when they don’t like what I expect. The young lady isn’t her frame; it is her ability to deliver by her skills and commitment. She was not what she looked like!
A long time ago, a town had the honour of the presence of Jesus the Son of God, and they couldn’t get beyond the surface of Jesus the son of the Carpenter! Unfortunately, because they couldn’t see beyond the surface, they couldn’t receive of His greatness.

As you go this week, will you see beyond the surface? Greatness is not loud, greatness is just great! And as long as you will not look beyond what is visible to the eye, you may not always get the best of out of the people and you may always have to leave money on the table.
Accord everyone HONOUR not because they look like it, but because you need more than sight to see who they truly are!
