Have you ever looked into a microscope? It does an excellent job of magnifying little things such that we can see the features in massive details. Sometimes, we get to see things that the ordinary eye will not have seen without help. All these things, though tiny and unseen, you will find out matter significantly to our existence on earth.
I work with people nearly every minute of every day. My work as a minister and a coach brings me into a place where I have to do a lot of counseling and give plenty of advice. One thing is sure, regardless of how sound your words are, what will make the difference in a person’s life is what conversations these people have with themselves when they have left you. In other words, you may be able to inspire a desire for change, but the decision is something they make all by themselves.
They say that what you see is what you get. While this may be true in some perspectives, it is not always the case. Many times, what you see is only a fraction of what is going on and what has led up to the place where you presently stand.
Consider a tree, when it is planted as a seed, you try to plant it at a good location and water it whenever you think necessary, but who has ever seen the force that forms a tree out of that seed and pushes it through the soil to the surface of the earth as it continues to grow bigger? All we see is the tree and one day, the fruits or flower comes alive beautifully. What brings about all that growth process are the interactions that happen when and where the world is not watching.
As leaders and individuals, our growth is measured by what we look like on the outside, but real growth happens as a result of what we do when we are away from the crowd and not trying to put up and appearance or conform to standards; this is the true definition of you and must receive the utmost attention. What fills your late night thoughts? What dreams do you dream when you are alone and not influenced by what is all over the television and media? What prayers do you pray when no one is dictating prayer points to you from a microphone on a pulpit? Who are you when no one is watching really? These are questions you must answer for yourself and so begin to pay deliberate attention to them.
It looks picture perfect to be all over social media and popular, but where is the substance of you? Many people have the ideal life on social media, and everybody wants to be them, but when you get close, it is often a box of emptiness and made up appearances.
To truly thrive, you must build from the inside out. Pay much attention to those things that grow you internally, things that are not seen but its fruits are seen eventually. These are the things that make life worth living.
