ARE YOU UNCONSCIOUSLY NEGLIGENT (BLOGPOST)

A very happy New Year to you and yours.

It is seven days into 2019. In case you are not paying attention yet, this year now has only 51 weeks to go. It’s like you blink and a week has flown past. Guess what, you never get that time back.

I have had some really great years where I was so intentional that everything I set out to accomplish was calendared, planned and delegated where it was possible. I didn’t fold my arms waiting for life to happen, I went after life. At the end of every year that I did that, it turned out I ‘crushed my goals’ as my children will say. But then, I also had some other years where I decided to play it by the ear. Sure, they were not total disasters, yet, I lived way below the best of me; if I would be truthful to myself.

What made the major difference between each of these years? One was the mindset with which I closed out the previous year and the enthusiasm with which I stepped into the new one. Two, was my clarity (or lack of it). It determined the strength and pattern of my preparation or lack thereof for what was to come.

Having experienced both divides, I believe I have become wiser.

So as 2018 came to roost, I was almost burnt out because I had had a very intense year. I decided that I was not going to leave anything to chance. I was going to consciously make decisions, plans and delegate where it was required so I could meet my targets and accomplish more than I did last year. I also deliberately, had to shut down what was either not working or had over stayed their lifespan and were no longer adding to the bottom line. Now that it is all coming together, I can categorically tell you that I am looking forward to a clutter free and more focused life.

This is my choice, based on my experiences, but it is also my recommendation for you. That you take this early in the year exercise to consider the fragments of your life and deliberately deal with each one seriously.

In case you think I have some extra powers, well, it won’t be far from the truth because I had help… God by Himself had called my attention to the fact that I had too many fragments to my life and as I payed attention to his prodding, I was surprised at how much I had unconsciously neglected!

The thing about unconscious negligence is that it creeps up on you. You go around thinking you have it all together only to discover you were only ignoring and managing the mess without noticing it. For me, it was a busyness that made me burn my candle from both ends. For most others, it is an inability to mind one’s business. Whichever it is for you, understand that it is a brand new year and a new opportunity to work your aspirations, dreams and plans.

In 2019, don’t fall into the trap of unconscious negligence. As a matter of fact, be more deliberate than ever and push hard as you can. Ask others to hold you accountable and do your best to deliver on your dreams for 2019. Whatever you do, always lay the foundation and top it up with God’s help.

Embrace Your Super Power!
